Marigold is an annual plant, with bright yellow or orange flowers. Its flowers are rich in essential oils, saponins, flavonoids, vitamin C, calcium, carotenes and silicon. They have antiseptic and antibacterial properties, they help the quick healing of wounds and they reduce inflammations. They can treat acne, phlebitis and eczema and they soothe insect bites. Marigold decoction is beneficial in cases of ulcer, gastritis and inflammations of the gastrointestinal system. It also eases menstrual pains. To make a decoction put water into a pot and add 5 gr of the herb for each cup of water. Boil for 10-15 minutes, strain and drink. You can consume up to 3 cups a day, before meals. To prepare a compress, put an amount of the herb in a pot, add water till it is fully covered and boil for 10-15 minutes. Drain and then dip a clean cloth in the decoction. Put the cloth on the skin, while it is still warm.
