Coltsfoot is, in Latin, called Tussilago farfara, which means cough suppressant. It is a small, perennial plant, with a fat rhizome and a height of 20 cm. it has expectorant, emollient, antispasmodic and diuretic properties. It can be used for chronic or acute bronchitis and asthma. A soothing expectorant action makes this herb suitable for most respiratory system problems. It also fights the harmful effects of smoking and it treats pleurisy and the flu. As a mild diuretic agent, it is also suitable for cystitis. To prepare an infusion, pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoonfuls of dry flowers or leaves. Leave it infuse for 10 minutes. Drink three times a day as hot as possible.
