Cardamom is a plant which belongs to the family of ginger. It is native to India. There are two species: the green cardamom and the red cardamom. It has a sweet, slightly spicy flavor that reminds of lemon. It adds flavor and it gives coffee and tea a sweet taste. It can be used with chicken, meat, fish, vegetable soups and salads. Finally, it is a necessary ingredient of Easter brioche. Apart from its culinary use, cardamom also has medicinal properties. It sooths rheumatic pains and catarrh, it detoxifies the body, it strengthens the liver, it is appetizing, it reduces freckles and brown patches on the skin and it acts as a tranquilizer.
